We are pleased you are considering joining us for a worship service or other special occasion. We have provided this information because we know it’s easier to visit a new place when you know what to expect.
What time does your Sunday worship service begin?
Sunday Church School begins at 8:30 am. Our Sunday Morning Worship Service begins at 9 am. Join for a discussion of the Bible during our Tuesday studies at 6:30-7:30 pm. We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion every First Sunday during our morning worship service and celebrate the Service of Baptism as scheduled.
Who can attend Jerusalem AME Church and activities?
Whosoever will…We welcome everyone to join us. Church School begins at 8:15 am; Worship begins at 9 am.
What are the worship services like?
In an intimate, small church setting, our services represent a combination of the familiar elements of worship with traditional and contemporary music ministry. We also have a Liturgical Dance Ministry and a Mime Ministry. At Jerusalem, there is something for everyone to enjoy during our worship experiences.
The Order of Service, including the lyrics to the featured hymns, are printed in the weekly bulletin provided upon your entrance into the Sanctuary for services. You will also find Intercessory Prayer and Economic Restoration scripture lessons noted in the bulletin. For your convenience, Bibles and Hymnals are conveniently located under the seats. Worshiping from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, we enter to worship and exit to serve.
What should I wear?
We want you to feel comfortable at our worship services. Typically members and visitors wear their “Sunday Best”. Members of the ministerial staff are recognizable in their black and white attire. Many officers of the church dress conservatively, however, you are welcome to dress more casually, but always respectfully. Just come as you are — we’re sure you’ll fit in!
Where should I park?
For your convenience, a parking lot is conveniently available on the church grounds. Please note there is one space reserved for our Pastor and handicapped parking is available.
Where do my children go to worship services?
Sunday Church School, held in our first-floor fellowship hall and classrooms, begins at 8:15 am and coincides with Worship Service, which begins at 8:30 am. Sunday School participants join the congregants at 9:00 am. Your children are welcome to attend Church School or they are welcome to accompany you in the Sanctuary during the entire Worship Service.
Am I allowed to take Communion?
In our church, we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion on the First Sunday of each month. As is the tradition of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, our Communion Table is an open table, available to all professed Christians, be they members of other churches or members of other denominations.
If you are physically unable to come to the altar to partake of Communion, a member of our ministerial staff will gladly serve you at your seat.
Can you accommodate large groups of visitors?
We love to welcome visitors to Jerusalem. We will gladly accommodate the seating of your large groups, such as a family or class reunion, with prior notice. Kindly call the church office at (301) 877-1772 or email us at email@example.com.
Can I meet the pastor?
Our Pastor, The Reverend Bishop Moore, gladly awaits the opportunity to greet you as you exit the Sanctuary after worship service each Sunday. When you exit the church through the center doors, he will meet you there. And, if you care to share a private moment with him, he is always willing to provide spiritual guidance, give words of encouragement or just lend a listening ear. And, if you were blessed by the worship experience, tell him…and to watch him smile light up the place.
Do you acknowledge visitors to the church?
We gladly take the time to recognize visitors during our service. You are invited to stand and share with the congregation your name, your current church affiliation and the name of the Jerusalem member with whom you are visiting (if any). We want to learn your name so we can know you by name. We are a warm congregation and hope to make you feel welcome while you worship with us. By the way, we greet all our first-time visitors with a special musical gift wrapped in our love…Welcome to Jerusalem, where the Spirit has His way; we like to welcome you….here with us today. We a Church that loves the Lord, and so we love you too, so we like to take this time to Welcome YOU!!!
How do I become a member of Jerusalem AME Church?
During each worship service, we issue an Invitation to Christian Discipleship where we invite attendees in need of a church home to join us at the altar for prayer. This invitation is extended to people who are new to the AME church, people who are members of another church and wish to transfer their membership to Jerusalem and to those who wish to temporarily affiliate with Jerusalem while they are away from their church home.
The pastor welcomes new members and introduces them to the congregation. New members are then referred to a member of the ministerial staff to complete the New Member Registration Form. You will be contacted immediately to again welcome you to our church and schedule an orientation class.
You may also call the church office at (301) 877-1772 to discuss your prospective membership with the pastor.
