The Board of Stewards
The Stewards are the chief and spiritual board of a local congregation. The Stewards have oversight of the total operations of the local congregation, both spiritual and temporal.
The Board of Trustees
The Trustees are responsible for the care, maintenance and securing of all church property, whether owned, leased, rented or secured.
The Dr. Virginia M. Manning Missionary Society/Young Peoples Division
The DVMMMS Women’s Missionary Society is formed for the purpose of instilling in its membership cooperation with the local church in its responsibilities, providing financial support to the Area and Local Delegates to the Conference Branch, and fostering missionary activities of the local church. The Young People’s Division provides meaningful youth training and activities programs in all areas of church life providing full inclusion and participation in the total mission of the church.
The Sunday Church School
We have adult andyouth Sunday School classes on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Sundays from 8:15-9:00 a.m. Church School is an exciting time to dig into God’s word to understand it better so we can obey it better. The Sunday School’s mission is to teach, train, nurture, prepare and recruit adults and children in God’s Word for Christian service.
The Intercessory Prayer
The Intercessory Prayer ministry meets the Saturday before every first Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The prayer warriors intercede in prayer for the Church, our Pastor, our leaders, members, friends, community and our nation. Prayer requests left in the prayer box or “lifted” during our worship services are addressed. The Annual Intercessory Prayer Breakfast is held the first Saturday of the New Year.
The J.W.A.L.K.E.R.S. (Jerusalem Witnessing, Advocating Love, Kindness, Eternal Restoration thru Salvation) is the evangelism ministry of the church. The J.W.A.L.K.E.R.S. lead various evangelism activities throughout the year, including taking information to our neighbors, passing out free, cold water withevangelistic materials on hot, summer days, and giving welcome packets to visitors. The evangelism ministry also promotes social justice and civic responsibilty both within our membership and community.
The Class Leader Council
The role of the Class Leader Council is to ensure every member of Jerusalem AME Church is connected to the Church and each other. Every member is a part of a Class with a designated Class Leader. Each Class meets periodically to ensure each member reaps the benefit of membership.
The Daughters of Jerusalem
The Daughters of Jerusalem (DOJ) is the women’s ministry group. DOJ meets once a month to discuss issues of interest to women. DOJ also sponsors Women’s Season every Spring and promotes Breast Cancer Awareness each October.
The Sons of Allen
The Sons of Allen (SOA) is the men’s ministry group. SOA meets once a month to discuss issues of interest to men. SOA also sponsora Men’s Season every Spring and offers support to the work of the Trustees.
The Madame C.J. Walker Lay Organization
Every member of the church who is not in ordained ministry is a part of the laity. The Madame C.J. Walker Lay Organization’s purpose is to instill in its membership a love and appreciation for the history, tradition and principles of African Methodism, advocating respect and loyalty to constituted authority; encourage the support of the total program of the local church; and foster systematic and regular study which will provide greater knowledge and participation in the life of the church.
The Board of Ushers
The ushers help facilitate the Order of Service by welcoming and seating congregants at the appropriate time, distributing bulletins and other information, assisting with the offering and generally meeting the needs of the congregants throughout the worship service.
The Worship and Liturgy Ministry
The Worship and Liturgy Ministry helps to facilitate the Order of Service by setting the musical tone for the service through the song and music selections.
The Karah for the Lord Liturgical Dance Ministry
The Karah ministry periodically ministers through dance and dramatic performance during worship services.
